Medical and medical companies gather in Suzhou Industrial Park

After over a decade of growth, the Suzhou Industrial Park has evolved into a major hub for the medical and healthcare industry. Today, more than 40 foreign-invested medical companies have established operations in the park, with a total investment of $924 million and registered capital amounting to $458 million. This impressive development has positioned the park as a key player in China's healthcare sector. The companies operating within the Suzhou Industrial Park are primarily concentrated in four main areas: pharmaceuticals, medical devices, health equipment, and biopharmaceuticals. Notable international firms such as GlaxoSmithKline, Eli Lilly, Eisai, Baxter, and Herbalife have all set up operations here. These global leaders contribute significantly to the park’s economic and industrial landscape. In recent years, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) was ranked as the 9th largest taxpayer in the Suzhou Industrial Park, paying over 100 million yuan in annual taxes. Several of these companies also made it into the “Top 100 Profit Companies in the National Pharmaceutical Industry.” For instance, Beckman Coulter (Suzhou) Co., Ltd. and Suzhou Capsule Co., Ltd. were ranked 5th and 7th respectively in the “Top 50 National Health Materials Industry Enterprises.” Meanwhile, Suzhou Bidi Medical Devices Co., Ltd., Unicom Hearing Technology (Suzhou) Co., Ltd., and Rexton Hearing Technology (Suzhou) Co., Ltd. secured positions 6th, 9th, and 38th in the “National Top 50 Medical Device Industry Enterprises.” Many of the medical and healthcare companies that have invested in the park are now entering their profitable phase, with consistent growth in sales and revenue. This has triggered another wave of industrial investment in the area. In particular, Japan has seen several pharmaceutical and medical firms establish themselves in the park, including Daiichi Pharmaceutical, Saten Pharmaceutical, and Sumitomo Pharmaceutical, which have all expanded their presence one after another. The continued expansion and success of the Suzhou Industrial Park highlight its growing importance as a center for innovation and investment in the global healthcare industry.
