Chicago FD involved in 2 crashes

The **first** incident occurred on Friday when a spare ambulance collided with a school bus in the Hanson Park neighborhood. According to the Chicago Tribune, the ambulance was en route to an emergency call when the crash happened around 9:20 a.m. at the intersection of Grand and Central Avenues on the Northwest Side. The ambulance had its emergency lights and siren activated, as confirmed by Fire Department Chief Joseph Roccasalva. At the time of the collision, the school bus had only the driver on board, who refused medical attention. Two paramedics aboard the ambulance were taken to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. One was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, and the other to Resurrection Hospital—both in stable condition. The **second** incident took place this morning when Truck 19, responding to a fire alarm in a high-rise building, was struck by a car at the intersection of Washington and Des Plaines. It appears the car’s driver may have failed to yield, resulting in a collision on the officer’s side of the truck. The car's driver was taken to the hospital for evaluation. Fortunately, none of the firefighters on board were injured. While Truck 19 was able to leave the scene, two critical compartments—containing hydraulic spreaders and Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) gear—were damaged and could not be opened.
