3-11 Alarm fire in Chicago, 1-8-18

The first alarm fire of the year, classified as a 3-11, broke out on Monday night (January 8, 2018) when Chicago firefighters responded to a large mattress warehouse located at 4041 S. Emerald. The structure, measuring 150 feet by 800 feet, was engulfed in flames, prompting a significant response from the Chicago Fire Department. Firefighters deployed three tower ladders and Squad 1A to apply elevated master streams and contain the fire. The massive size of the building required coordinated efforts from multiple units, including engine companies and specialty apparatus. The scene was tense as crews worked to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby structures. Several photos from the incident were captured by Larry Shapiro, showcasing the intensity of the operation. These images highlight the use of key equipment such as the Rosenbauer ACP-55, E-One Cyclone II engines, and the Tower Ladder 39 and 54. Additionally, the mobile command unit was seen on site, helping to coordinate the firefighting efforts. You can view more photos from this event on Shapirophotography.net.
