4th Alarm house fire in Wadsworth 4-30-13 (pt 2)

Scott Peterson was on scene at the 4th Alarm fire in Newport Township, Wadsworth, on Monday and has shared a series of powerful images that will be featured across multiple posts. On Tuesday, April 30, 2013, the Newport Fire Department (FPD) responded to a fire at 14541 Juniper Court. Upon arrival, crews encountered a heavy volume of fire coming from both the roof and the interior of the home. The Zion Ladder Truck arrived quickly and was immediately deployed for water tower operations. At first, only one portable tank was available, with most of the water being directed to the Zion unit. The incident was rapidly escalated from a second alarm to a fourth alarm, prompting multiple engine and tender companies from MABAS Divisions 4 and 101 (Kenosha County, WI), as well as units from Twin Lakes FD, which was the farthest department to respond. Eventually, three portable tanks were set up in series, providing a continuous flow of water without any loss. Despite the intense fire conditions upon arrival, the crews handled the situation exceptionally well, achieving a successful knockdown. One photo clearly shows the complete collapse of a large section of the second floor through the C division window above the back deck. More photos from today’s fire, including apparatus and overall scene shots, will be posted soon. It's always a sobering reminder of the dangers firefighters face every day.
