Nanchang wants to build a global auto parts base

Nanchang News reporter Xiong Chunyu reports: At the 2006 Ford Global Supplier (Nanchang) Investment Matching Conference, it was revealed that Nanchang is making a concerted effort to establish a six-hour economic circle centered around Jiangling for the first time in two years. This initiative aims to position the city as a key player in the global automotive market, with a focus on developing a robust auto parts industry base. According to the conference, Ford Motor Company's annual procurement volume in the Asia-Pacific region amounts to between $70 billion and $90 billion. Jing Mel, Ford's Asia-Pacific Regional Director of Purchasing, led over 30 global suppliers to Nanchang, emphasizing stronger collaboration with Jiangling. The visit aims to support the new Jiangling project through "knowledge transfer" and technical assistance. A local official stated that Nanchang plans to reach a production capacity of 300,000 vehicles within three years, expanding to 500,000 units in five to ten years. The city also aims to attract 5 billion yuan in fixed asset investment within two years, while boosting net sales revenue to over 5 billion yuan. Currently, the automobile and auto parts industry accounts for 17% of Nanchang's economy. By the end of the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" period, this share is expected to rise to 25%. The city is working to build an industrial ecosystem that not only supports Jiangling but also serves the surrounding six-hour economic zone and eventually positions itself as a global hub for auto parts manufacturing.
