On July 2, the 15th World Pharmacology Congress kicked off in Beijing, drawing over 3,000 pharmacologists and professionals from more than 60 countries and regions. The event serves as a global platform for in-depth discussions on cutting-edge drug discovery, pharmaceutical innovation, and the future of the industry. This year’s conference highlights the growing importance of pharmacology in addressing global health challenges and advancing medical science.
The World Pharmacology Congress is the most prestigious and academically influential international gathering in the field, held every four years. It brings together leading scientists, researchers, and industry leaders to share insights and foster collaboration. The 15th edition marks a significant milestone, as it is the first time the event has been hosted in China, a testament to the country's rising influence in global pharmacological research.
China’s bid to host the congress was secured at the 13th World Pharmacology Congress in Munich, Germany, in 1998. Since then, the Chinese Pharmacological Society has played an increasingly active role in shaping the direction of global pharmacology. This year’s event is seen as a crucial opportunity to showcase China’s progress and strengthen international partnerships.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, a representative from the Chinese Pharmacological Society emphasized that hosting the congress will significantly boost the development of pharmacology in China and accelerate the creation of innovative drugs. They called on local pharmaceutical professionals to take full advantage of this platform, engage with global experts, and drive the transformation of China’s pharmaceutical sector from imitation-based to innovation-driven.
According to reports, the field of pharmacology is currently undergoing rapid evolution, driven by breakthroughs in life sciences and biotechnology. These advancements have redefined the landscape of medical research, including pharmacology. At this year’s conference, over 300 leading experts delivered special presentations, with more than 20 of them coming from China—an unprecedented number that reflects the country’s growing expertise and recognition on the global stage. This achievement underscores the steady improvement in China’s pharmacological research capabilities and its increasing integration into the international scientific community.
