The increase in output has brought pressure to China's non-ferrous metal industry to save energy and reduce emissions

The state-owned non-ferrous metals industry is currently facing a complex development pattern. On one hand, it is actively phasing out outdated production capacity, yet on the other, output has been rising sharply. This "sawboard" type of unbalanced growth has not only failed to reduce energy consumption in China’s non-ferrous sector, but has instead caused it to surge. The rapid expansion seen from January to July this year indicates that the industry remains skeptical about achieving meaningful energy savings and emission reductions. Energy use has grown in tandem with output, reflecting a trend that mirrors the high-growth momentum observed in 2006. From January to July, China’s total output of ten non-ferrous metals reached 13.09 million tons, up by 2.58 million tons compared to the same period in 2006—a 24.58% increase. Copper production was 1.89 million tons, up 10.92%, while primary aluminum reached 6.94 million tons, a rise of 36.28%. This surge in electrolytic aluminum has become the key driver behind the overall growth in non-ferrous metal output. Despite some progress in energy efficiency during the “Tenth Five-Year Plan,” the industry remains a major energy consumer. In 2005, the non-ferrous sector consumed over 80 million tons of standard coal, accounting for around 3.8% of national energy use. However, the rapid expansion of production capacity, especially in primary aluminum, has significantly increased energy demand, creating immense pressure for energy conservation and emission reduction. The industry now faces five major challenges: increasing investment in smelting projects, lack of standardized energy consumption metrics, rising energy use due to expanding smelting capacity, difficulty in eliminating outdated production, and weak technological innovation capabilities. In response, the Chinese Non-Ferrous Metals Industry Association, along with the National Development and Reform Commission and the State Environmental Protection Administration, recently held a conference to address these issues. They outlined key measures for energy-saving and emission reduction during the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan.” These include adjusting product structures, accelerating the elimination of outdated production, promoting advanced technologies, investing in key projects, developing a circular economy, and improving energy efficiency standards. By 2010, the goal is for China’s non-ferrous metal industry to reach or approach global best practices in technical and economic performance. Efforts will focus on controlling smelting growth, enforcing stricter environmental regulations, encouraging energy-efficient technologies, and enhancing resource recycling. With these strategies in place, the industry aims to balance rapid development with sustainable energy use.

Place hardwood cooking pellets in the burnpot. Break off a few pieces of fire starter, and place on top. Light a match, and its as simple as that!

Temperature With the burnpot blower, were able to reach peak temps in half the time! We want to add small amounts of additional pellets to the hopper every 60 seconds or so to maintain a strong fire. Reaching proper temperature on the cooking stone is key. Depending on our pizza crust, we want the stone between 650 and 850 degrees Fahrenheit. With the insulated front door, we have minimal heat loss, allowing us to cook quicker, with less fuel needed. Now that our stone is up to proper temperature, its time to slide in the pizza!

Cooking the Pizza The pizza oven includes a stainless steel pizza peel. Make sure to lay down flour or cornmeal for an easy transition to the stone. Practice makes perfect. At these temps, our pizza is going to cook fast! We recommend pulling the pizza out every 30 seconds, and doing a rotational turn for best results. And there you have it the perfect artisan pizza in less than two minutes! Theres nothing like a real wood fired pizza.
