Lake Forest is on the site

Lake Forest Fire Department recently added both of its stations to the website, marking an important update for Division 4. The primary station, located at 255 W. Deerpath Road, is a hub of activity and equipment. It houses a variety of vehicles, including a buggy, two engines, three ambulances, a tower ladder, squad vehicle, utility truck, boat, and an ATV. All but one of the ambulances have been documented so far. This station also serves as the headquarters for the police department and dispatch center. A recent photograph by Larry Shapiro captures the building's exterior, showcasing its modern design and functionality. Interestingly, the Lake Forest apparatus underwent a color transformation starting in 1991 when they acquired their first Pierce units, which featured a white roof. Until 2007, they maintained the classic white-over-red scheme. However, with the arrival of Engine 422—a Pierce Dash rescue pumper—the department introduced a new trend. Later, in 2008, an IHC/Horton ambulance joined the fleet, painted in a sleek black-over-red finish. Additionally, the 1994 Pierce Saber underwent refurbishment at Renewed Performance, Inc. (RPI) in Tipton, Indiana, and now sports the same black-over-red livery. Meanwhile, Station 2, located on the west side of town, underwent significant changes over the years. Originally housed in a repurposed Everett School building near Waukegan Road (Rt. 43), the station moved in 1993 to a brand-new facility. This state-of-the-art firehouse features three drive-through bays, office spaces for the Fire Prevention Bureau, and a classroom area. Conveniently situated just a block away from the old location on Everett Road, the new station blends seamlessly into the community. Photography by Larry Shapiro once again captures the essence of this modern facility. Despite its size, the second-floor dormers are purely decorative, as there is no actual living space above. Station 2 is located at 1111 S. Telegraph Road, providing essential services to the growing neighborhood. Reflecting on these updates, it’s clear that the Lake Forest Fire Department continues to evolve while maintaining its commitment to public safety. From the original red-painted apparatus to the current black-over-red designs, each change reflects the department’s adaptability and growth. These stations not only serve as operational bases but also symbolize the community’s dedication to preparedness and collaboration.
