Traditional Wet Down in Buffalo Grove

This morning, the Buffalo Grove Fire Department held a traditional wet-down ceremony to officially welcome two brand-new apparatuses to their fleet. The event, which marked the arrival of a new Ferrara engine and a Ferrara tower ladder, was a significant moment for the department and was attended by current and former members, along with village officials and other honored guests. Chief Vavra kicked off the ceremony with a brief speech, setting the tone for the day’s festivities. Following his remarks, the highlight of the event took place—both vehicles were ceremonially “wet-downed” with water hoses, a gesture steeped in tradition that symbolizes the welcome and blessing of new equipment. Afterward, everyone joined together to dry the trucks with towels before ceremoniously pushing them into Station 26. Both rigs are expected to be fully operational within the next six weeks. The Ferrara engine will soon be stationed at Station 27, while the tower ladder will remain at Station 26. This transition will also prompt the relocation of the KME 75′ Quint from Station 27 to Station 25. As part of this update, the department is retiring older vehicles, including the 1991 E-ONE 75′ Hush Quint and the 1989 Seagrave engine. The images captured during the event beautifully document the day’s activities, showing firefighters and community members working together to celebrate this milestone. In one photo, a firefighter can be seen giving the new tower ladder a ceremonial “wetting down,” while another captures personnel meticulously drying the apparatus before its grand entrance into the station. Other photos highlight the teamwork involved in maneuvering the heavy vehicles into place, showcasing the camaraderie among the firefighters and their guests. One particularly striking image shows the new tower ladder being guided into Station 26, highlighting the impressive scale of the apparatus. Another memorable shot features Engine 217, the new Ferrara engine, being pushed into the main station for the first time, marking its future role serving the northern part of town from Station 27. These moments not only celebrate the introduction of cutting-edge firefighting technology but also underscore the dedication and unity of the Buffalo Grove Fire Department. Overall, the wet-down ceremony was more than just a formal introduction; it was a heartfelt celebration of the department’s ongoing commitment to excellence and safety in the Buffalo Grove community.
