The Sutong GIL Integrated Pipe Gallery project is the main road and control project for the East China UHV AC ring network. It is planned to be completed and put into operation in 2019.

Suzhou will usher in the second DC UHV

The first UHV DC project in Suzhou - Jinping - Sunan UHV undertook the mission of the Yalong River Basin and the Jinping I and II hydropower stations, as well as the surplus water and electricity in Sichuan's Fengshui period. Since the project was put into operation in December 2012, it has been operating at a large load and full load for many years, and has delivered more than 185.9 billion kWh of clean water and electricity to Suzhou. In order to ensure that the power station can be put into production, the State Grid will start the preliminary work of the Baihetan-Jiangsu UHV DC project ahead of schedule and will be located in Suzhou. It is understood that the project will increase the power supply of 8 million to 10 million kilowatts for Suzhou during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, meeting the demand for power consumption of Suzhou 41 million kilowatts in 2030.

In order to ensure that calls outside the UHV area fall, the Suzhou Power Supply Company continues to accelerate the construction of the power grid. At the same time, the 2×300 thousand-plus synchronous camera project of Suzhou Tongli Converter Station is also steadily advancing. It is expected to be completed and put into operation at the end of the year, which will provide dynamic and reactive support for the safe and stable operation of UHV receiving power grid.

Innovative technology to ensure safe operation

In recent years, with the advancement of technology, the operating efficiency of UHV has been continuously improved. Among them, Xiangjiaba-Shanghai UHV rated transmission power is 6.4 million kilowatts, the maximum continuous transmission power is 7.2 million kilowatts; Jinping-Sunan high pressure rated transmission capacity is 720. It is understood that the UHV DC receiving end is connected to the 500 kV and 1000 kV AC systems, which organically combines the advantages of UHV AC and DC, significantly enhances the system's stability control capability, and provides a new and efficient way to develop large energy bases. At the same time, these projects have successfully developed a variety of new equipment, realized the localization of UHV complete sets of equipment and key raw materials and components, and promoted the overall upgrade of China's electrical equipment industry.

For the Baihetan-Jiangsu UHV, which is carrying out preliminary work, Liu Zehong said that it will adopt innovative hybrid cascade multi-end straightening technology. Among them, the hybrid cascading and sending end adopts the traditional direct current and the flexible direct current technology based on the voltage source control, and the multi-terminal soft straight-end adopts the multi-terminal flexible direct current technology, which has the advantages of good compatibility and high reliability.

At present, the Wudongde Power Station under construction in the South Network is sending electricity to Guangdong Guangxi UHV multi-terminal DC demonstration project, which adopts ±800 kV three-terminal hybrid DC technology. The Yunnan Kunbei converter station at the sending end adopts UHV conventional DC, and the receiving end Guangxi Liubei Converter Station and Guangdong Longmen Converter Station adopt UHV flexible DC technology. In contrast, Baihetan-Jiangsu UHV technology level is further innovated and improved.

In addition, Liu Zehong also requested that the relevant participating units of the project should pre-establish the safety and stability of the receiving power grid, further optimize the access system scheme and the DC technology scheme based on the location selection scheme of the receiving converter station, and fully promote the engineering feasibility study.
