Recently, I responded to a fire call. There wasn’t much visible fire, but there were a few interesting details worth noting. The building was in really poor condition—several sections of the roof had already collapsed before the fire, and access was extremely limited. Interestingly, it wasn’t classified as a red X building, which is unusual given its state. I managed to capture some video and photos showing a Chicago stripping ladder being used as a battering ram to remove plywood window coverings. This is an impressive tool that's pretty unique to Chicago—though it’s not typically used for climbing, it’s commonly used during ventilation to pull up roofing materials. It’s definitely a versatile piece of equipment. Class A foam was also deployed at this incident, which is a good sign of modern firefighting techniques. The crew had a spare snorkel, and even though it wasn’t fully utilized, there were some nice rig shots captured. Overall, it was a solid response with some notable tools and tactics on display.Steve
