This is from Steve Redick.
Recently, I responded to a call at a building that didn’t look like much in terms of fire activity. However, there were a few interesting details worth noting. The structure was in really poor condition—several sections of the roof had already collapsed before the fire, and access was extremely limited. It's kind of ironic that it wasn't even classified as a red X building. Despite that, I managed to capture some video and photos of a Chicago stripping ladder being used as a battering ram to remove the plywood window coverings. This is a unique and effective tool that's pretty specific to Chicago. While it’s not typically used for climbing, it's commonly used during ventilation operations to pull up roofing materials. Additionally, Class A foam was deployed at this incident. The crew had a spare snorkel, and although it wasn’t fully utilized, there were some good rig shots taken.Steve

It was a challenging response due to the structural issues, but the team handled it well. I think it's always good to see how different departments adapt their tools and techniques based on the situation. The use of the stripping ladder as a battering ram stood out as a practical and clever approach. I’ll be sharing more images and footage soon. Stay safe, and thanks for checking it out.
