According to feedback from companies, the sales volume of FAW-liberated AMT heavy trucks totaled less than 40 vehicles. However, as early as 2009, China National Heavy Duty Truck, which produces AMT, has not had a large AMT match. The largest commercial vehicle transmission supplier in China, Fast, has less than 1,000 units in the AMT market. For foreign companies, ZF has accumulated about 300 AMT sales in China. Eaton displayed 12-block AMT at the Shanghai Auto Show in 2015. However, as of yet, there has been no sales.


A number of industry insiders pointed out that the penetration rate of AMT in China's heavy truck market is less than 1%. Starting from FAW and CNHTC's planned development of AMT, it has been nearly 10 years. AMT in China's heavy-duty commercial vehicle market is difficult to promote, while in Europe and the United States, heavy Vehicle fitting AMT is quite common.

It is reported that the domestic heavy truck AMT has mainly formed the AMT supporting system represented by Fast, the vertical supporting system represented by China National Heavy Duty Truck Group and China FAW Jiefang, and the imported AMT supporting system represented by ZF and Eaton. Some vehicle manufacturers have also planned heavy truck AMT products from Fast and ZF.

"Faster AMT products are mainly matched to the high-end models of major auto companies, such as the Shaanxi Automobile XD Cardronon X3000, Foton Daimler GTL, Dongfeng Liuzhou Gas H7 and T7, and Bei Ben Heavy Truck V3ET." According to the person in charge of the related project, Fast AMT supporting companies include most of the mainstream heavy-duty truck companies, with a high test loading rate.

China National Heavy Duty Truck and FAW Liberated AMT for its own vehicle. As early as 2008, Sinotruk cooperated with WABCO to develop AMT and began mass production in 2009. As of now, with the AMT heavy truck Haowo T710 block, 12 block and 16 block models sales are small and social recognition is low. FAW's AMT is based on Eaton's technology and adopts Bosch's electronic control. The FAW Liberation J6 pilot version equipped with AMT is still in the delivery period. ZF and Eaton heavy truck AMT are machine imports. “Since 6 years ago, ZF introduced tentatively heavy-duty AMT products in China. We need to fully understand the needs of Chinese customers and study how well our products adapt to China's road conditions.” ZF's truck and light passenger transmission technology business unit is responsible for China. Wei Guoqing said in an interview with reporters that China's heavy trucks used for export are equipped with ZF's AMT. At present, ZF has two products sold in China, and cooperates with mainstream domestic automakers, and it will be domestically produced as soon as 2019.

According to industry insiders, in Europe, especially in Western Europe, heavy truck AMT has occupied a dominant position. Some Volvo tractors equipped with manual gears in Europe do not have an advantage over AMT models at the time of delivery. It is reported that the most famous heavy-duty truck AMT products in Europe are mainly automatic transmissions such as Mercedes-Benz Power-Shift, Volvo I-shift and ZF AS-Tronic.

China's heavy truck transmission market is in line with the European and American markets. "In Europe, AMT products account for a very large proportion of ZF commercial vehicle transmission sales, far more than manual transmissions. At present, tractors sold by Volvo, Mercedes-Benz, and Man are basically equipped with AMT." Wei Guoqing told reporters that the 20th century 90 In the decade, the European heavy truck market began to import AMT, which gradually took off in 2000. After 2008, the market share of automatic transmissions surpassed that of manual transmissions, and currently exceeds 90% in the European market. Although China's vehicle manufacturers and commercial vehicle transmission suppliers are actively promoting the application of AMT, the market penetration rate is still very low. Why? In the interview, first-line users, entire vehicle companies and suppliers gave their opinions.

“In my impression, there are few heavy trucks currently equipped with AMT, and the Haowo T7 and Shaanxi Auto DeLong 3000 see more.” Zhang Zhansheng, general manager of Henan Wenxian Shunfeng Transport Company, told reporters, “We currently have a fleet of vehicles. There is no procurement of heavy trucks equipped with AMT. The main reason is that the prices are too high, and there are still concerns about performance and maintenance costs."

The insiders of FAW Jiefang Sales Company believe that there are multiple reasons for the popularity of AMT. First, the AMT models in the domestic truck market are still relatively small. Consumers have insufficient awareness of AMT. Second, ordinary customers, especially individual consumers, are interested in AMT. In general, large fleets or users with deeper understanding of product technology will be the main purchasing power of heavy truck AMT; third, high product prices, and concerns about the use and maintenance costs; Fourth, domestic truck market AMT service capabilities Need to be improved. On the whole, companies still need to continue to increase AMT's propaganda to guide consumers to correctly recognize the advantages of AMT products.

Wei Guoqing believes that the lack of product R&D, over-loading, and non-standard use of AMT will prevent AMT from playing an advantage in the Chinese market and thus affect market sales. China has a lot of special road conditions and it takes longer to calibrate. Without large quantities, AMT prices will remain high. With the maturity of technology and the rigorous use of the market, it is predicted that by 2019, sales of heavy truck AMT will usher in a substantial increase.
