Caterpillar launches new CT15 engine up to 550 hp

On June 10, 2012, Caterpillar introduced the new CatCT15 engine . The engine can increase the power of the CT660 professional truck.

The new CatCT15 engine provides CatCT660 professional truck users with greater horsepower and torque to ensure good performance in harsh environments. It is an option for Caterpillar's third-generation multi-purpose CatCT 660 engine, which also includes the CT11 and CT13. It is reported that the CT15 engine has a capacity of 15 litres and can provide up to 550 horsepower and 1,850 pound-feet of torque.

The CT15 engine's dual-sequence turbocharger and precision-controlled high-pressure common-rail fuel system allow its peak torque to reach 2100 rpm. Its powerful traction at low engine speeds allows shifting while the engine is accelerating, reducing the need for shifting while driving on steep slopes. The interstage cooling system between the turbochargers effectively increases the air density and maintains power supply as speed increases. These features greatly increase the locomotive productivity and reduce the wear on the truck.

It is understood that the CT15 engine also provides an engine braking device with a braking horsepower exceeding 600 horsepower. The device helps the driver maintain optimum speed on steep downhill or long slopes without the need for frequent use of auxiliary brakes. At the same time, proper use can further optimize productivity and reduce maintenance costs.

Like the company’s previously introduced CT11 and CT13, the CatCT15 engine uses advanced emission control technology. Its exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system can effectively reduce the amount of nitrogen oxides emitted from the cylinder. This design eliminates the cost of draining fluids, saves associated maintenance time, and effectively increases truck load capacity.

In addition, the CT15 engine is designed for reliable operation. Its single electronic control module and fewer electrical connections improve the reliability of the vehicle's operation and reduce diagnostic and repair time. Its high quality, foam molded wire harness protects wires and connections, further increasing reliability and durability. The internal high-quality cam and rotary gas distribution mechanism effectively reduce friction and operating load in reliable operation, thereby enhancing durability and improving peak engine efficiency.
