New Energy Technology Becomes China's Automobile Industry Transformation

As we all know, new energy vehicles, especially electric vehicles, have become the direction of China's automobile industry transformation. After more than ten years of exploration and development, after the demonstration and promotion of thousands of projects in ten cities, electric vehicles have also entered the stage of industrialization in China.

In the prevailing environment of electric vehicles, has the fuel vehicle lost its competitiveness? Is there enough market to develop?

Not long ago, Honeywell announced that it will supply turbochargers for GAC-Fiat and JAC's small-displacement gasoline engines in 2012. At the same time, Honeywell is supplying Jiangling Motors with a new VNT turbocharger based on Ford's global engine platform.

This seems to convey a signal: For fuel-car suppliers represented by Honeywell, the rising of electric vehicles does not appear to be a barrier to their development.

Further, Honeywell’s two new businesses won in the field of gasoline turbochargers are for petrol engines up to 1.6L, which caters to the trend of miniaturization of gasoline engines through the application of turbocharger technology in the global automotive industry. Maintain the new trend of improving fuel economy and reducing CO2 emissions while maintaining engine performance. In addition to these two new contracts, Honeywell also cooperates with three other domestic vehicle manufacturers on gasoline engine projects. Currently, Honeywell has teamed up with more than 10 domestic automakers to jointly develop projects.

Regarding the development path of the traditional auto industry in the future, Han Ru, the deputy secretary-general of the China Automobile Engineering Society, stated that energy saving and emission reduction is a distinct theme in industrial planning. Energy-saving emission reduction not only depends on new energy vehicles, but also on electric vehicles. In the process of new energy vehicles becoming industrialized, energy-saving vehicles based on traditional automobiles are also very important and indispensable components. The automobile industry still has a long way to go in terms of energy saving and emission reduction.

Wu Haijun, Director of the Department of Economic Development of the Ministry of Finance, said that the basic conditions for the comprehensive energy-saving and new energy vehicles at the stage of technological maturity are different. The Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the National Development and Reform Commission and other departments have conducted intensive and meticulous research and reported to the State Council for approval. The development strategy for both energy-saving cars and new energy vehicles has been formed, that is, to comprehensively popularize and popularize energy-saving cars, and to pilot the demonstration of new energy vehicles.

Therefore, domestic automobile manufacturers and consumers are paying more and more attention to how to improve the fuel economy of automobiles while not losing engine performance. Gasoline turbocharging technology is also increasingly becoming an effective method for achieving miniaturization of engines. Output more powerful power through smaller engines while helping to provide better fuel economy.

It is expected that the use of turbocharged vehicles in the Chinese market will increase significantly in the next 10 years, and gasoline turbocharged vehicles will be the main driver of increase. According to forecasts, sales of gasoline turbocharged vehicles are likely to increase five-fold from 2009 to 2015, while the use of turbocharger vehicles will increase by nearly 20% year-on-year.

In response to this development trend, Gao Dinggui, general manager of Honeywell's turbocharged technology division in China, said: “We are currently working with major vehicle manufacturers in China and they are all miniaturizing the engine through the use of gasoline turbochargers. At the same time, it is very interesting to maintain a high level of engine power. We have noticed that more and more attention has been paid to small-displacement car engines, especially cars under 1.6 liters."

Gao Dinggui also stated that the development of new energy vehicles will pose more challenges to Honeywell and other traditional automotive suppliers.

Han Lei believes that at this stage, new energy still has problems such as technological instability, high cost of acquisition, and inadequate supporting facilities. This is a problem that any new student has to face in the development process.

Therefore, energy-saving cars must make great efforts to increase the efficiency of traditional internal combustion engines. This is as important as the R&D and promotion of new energy vehicles, and they all have very large potential.
“New energy vehicles are the direction of development, but as experts say, we need to walk on two legs, new energy vehicles need to be developed, and traditional cars have to be developed, because this alternative process cannot be completed overnight. Traditional vehicles do not It may be very important to exit the historical stage. How to reduce fuel consumption and save energy and reduce emissions are very important.” Gao Dinggui said.
