Waukegan firefighters were called to a house fire on Friday evening at 545 W. Water Street, where they arrived to find heavy flames already burning. Due to the intensity of the fire, the alarm was upgraded to a MABAS Box Alarm to bring in additional resources from surrounding areas. Firefighters worked quickly to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby homes. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, and no injuries have been reported so far.
The home was severely damaged, with much of the structure gutted by the flames. Local residents expressed concern over the incident, as the area is largely residential. Emergency crews remained on scene for several hours, working to fully extinguish the fire and secure the site.
